JESTERS U35s @ QUEEN’S AUG-2023

Young Jesters Event @ Queen’s Club (Sat 5 August 2023)

To celebrate a year since our first Young Jesters event, we returned to The Queen’s Club for our ‘summer’ event. With the rain lashing down, we were all thankful that squash is an indoor sport.

We had a round-robin event featuring 6 teams of 4 players, including Dan Neill making the journey from Newcastle, Ben Merchant from Loughborough and PSA Player Millie Tomlinson. The group-stage featured some tasty rivalries, including siblings Laura and Dan Neill separated by 2 points (15-13 to Dan!). The final was fought between Team Farag and Team Gohar – with Team Farag (Andrew L, Jake M, Tash B) winning on points count-back at two strings all. In the post-dinner speech, Andrew (who lost all his games) gave a heartfelt thanks to his teammates who delivered the trophy! At this point, Owen’s flag that his ‘Team Elias’ came 2nd bottom despite him winning all his games went down like a lead balloon with his own team!

The players also enjoyed an afternoon of Real Tennis, with club champ Jamie Douglas kindly offering his time and expertise to give a spot of coaching. A handful also made it on the Rackets courts before dinner, completing a Triple Crown of Jester sports!

Following the on-court action, we headed upstairs to our private room for an excellent two-course dinner (Thai Green Curry + Chocolate Brownie) and drinks.

Thank you to all who attended and made it a great day, to Queen’s Club for hosting us impeccably, and the Jesters Club for supporting us.

Our next YJ event will be held at Southbank in Oct-Nov, whilst we have some smaller fixtures coming up with Queen’s, Lansdowne and Hurlingham. We also plan to run some events slightly further afield, with an upcoming friendly with Loughborough Uni on the cards. Please contact Andrew Lindsay, Laura Neill or Owen Riddall if you’re interested in getting involved (or would like to organise a fixture/event!).
